Since its launch in 2017, CitySuites, a luxury serviced apartment block for business travellers and luxury clientele, has taken the city of Manchester by storm and it has become one of the most desirable places to stay and live in the city.
Situated between Manchester’s famous shopping boutiques and major business centres, the apartments are a home from home for short-term business visitors, as well as long-term residents and VIPs and the building includes a reception, gym and pool.
CP Electronics were approached by the principal contractors, AMEON, to provide a lighting solution to control the luxury ambiance of the communal areas and corridors while being cost effective and energy efficient.
“With the high-end nature of this project, we wanted to provide a solution that offered the control the client desired whilst maintaining a realistic budget. The controls used meant the ambiance of the communal areas could easily be controlled through scene-setting functionality with the added benefits of energy efficiency and simple installation.”
“For the CItySuites project, we supplied the D-Mate® room control system for the communal areas in the building. D-Mate® is an economical solution which provides exceptional results when used in these types of projects. Staff can easily control lighting and mood through simple scene-setting plates and the modular system and simple connectivity means it is easy to install and configure to the exact needs of each project.
“Through presence detection functionality and auto adjustment for daylight, D-Mate® also provides advanced energy saving benefits.
“We also installed PIR (Passive Infrared) sensors to all the shared areas which link up to the lighting control system. For the pool and gym these sensors switch the lights on when presence is detected, and automatically dim to a minimum lux level or switch off if the area is unoccupied.
“In addition, we supplied our long-range microwave presence detectors for the corridors. We specified detectors that sense movement up to 25-30 metres away which means in this project only one detector is needed per corridor, resulting in reduced capital expenditure and long-term maintenance.
“Using microwave presence detectors, the lights switch on or off depending on occupancy and pre-programmed time settings.”
Matthew Liffen, Commercial Manager for AMEON, said, “CP Electronics demonstrated an understanding of the luxury feel we were going for with CitySuites immediately with the suggestion of their D-Mate® system. The scene setting plate in the reception allows reception staff to easily control the lighting and mood, while it was simple to commission, adaptable, and helps CitySuites save energy and cost when areas aren’t in use.
“This is particularly the case with the gym, which has been split into two halves. If guests aren’t using one half of the gym, then the lights stay off. The service from CP was excellent, while their attention to detail during the design of the apartments was faultless.”
Nick Booth, Area Sales Manager for CP Electronics, said “Even though CitySuites’ main clientele will be executive guests, it is still imperative that costs are kept down wherever possible. With our clever D-Mate® system, we have been able to offer that luxury control and feel. Energy use is kept to a minimum through automatic dimming of lights in communal areas and switching off entirely in corridors.”
