Energy Efficiency is Key at Bryanston School
Leading lighting control expert CP Electronics has supplied a range of PIRs and microwave detectors to the new Music Department at Bryanston School, near Blandford Forum, Dorset. Installed by Ringwood based Accolade Building Services Ltd, CP’s controls provide accurate and easy adjustment of light levels, vital for today’s teaching spaces which have to cater for a varied range of activities.
Bryanston School is a co-educational independent school for both day and boarding pupils with the main body of the school occupying a large palatial house situated on a 400 acre site. The new state-of-the-art music facility contains a variety of specialised music-making rooms including 35 teaching/practice rooms and offices, recording studios and a recital room.
The CP detectors predominantly control T5 fluorescent luminaires with digital DALI ballasts to provide absence detection and daylight linking in all of the music rooms and teaching spaces, using EBDSPIR detectors and MWS3A microwave detectors. By using a centre-biased retractive switch, the user is given complete control to manually adjust the light levels to suit individual requirements. . The PIR detectors switch the lighting on in response to movement, which removes the opportunity for human error in switching the lights off. The microwave detectors have been used to turn on the lighting as soon as the door begins to open, rather than waiting to detect movement inside the area. Presence detection in the corridors, toilets and stores has been provided by CP’s EBDSPIR-PRM.
CP’s solution for Bryanston School is simple but effective. The customer was also provided with a programmer at the end of the contract and has received training from CP Electronics with the professional commissioning handset to allow them to make any minor adjustments themselves. Martin Laws, Electrical Projects Manager with Accolade Building Services Limited, commented “The support provided by Darren Benfield, one of CP’s team of experts, to assist ABS in the lighting control design, plus his hands-on support on site through to commissioning and demonstrations was second to none”.
